WELCOME
As I begin writing this issue of the Newsletter, the memorable date reminds me that exactly two years ago, my beloved husband Jim was diagnosed with prostate cancer. That pronouncement was staggering since Jim had just successfully completed various treatments for bladder cancer. Happily, he survived and as I look at him sitting across the room from me, he is smiling and energetic. It has been quite a rocky journey for both of us these past two years. I have often consoled myself with Dr. Albert Einstein’s saying, “In the midst of difficulty, lies opportunity.” We had many opportunities to step on and over the jagged rocks that eventually brought us to a more peaceful place. Even through the dark nights, I knew this was part of a transformative journey. Difficulties abound for everyone and there are always occasions to transcend the challenges. My main utensil in my tool box is my intuition which lets me rise above the situation to view the whole picture. My intuitive mind speaking in symbols and images has sent me the picture of an arrow which you can be used to pierce through the negativity in any situation in order to accentuate the positive.
QUOTE OF THE MONTH
Intelligence highly awakened is intuition which is the only true guide in life.
Krishnamurti
This quote underscores the intention to cultivate your intuition and use this invincible guide throughout the day and night.
DR. MARCIA’S INTUITIVE WISDOM CORNER
Once someone I loved very dearly fell into a deep clinical depression. I felt helpless and inadequate to save my companion, to guide him through the dark tunnel into the light. The refrain of an old spiritual came to my mind: “You got to walk that lonesome valley by yourself.” A very dear psychologist friend would leave me E-mail messages filled with encouraging words, always painting a hopeful vision. As my companion sank deeper into despair, unable to receive my help, my psychologist friend would say, “I see that only good can come out of this acute depression.” Reversing the situation, he envisioned my companion as whole, well, and magnificently transformed –a caterpillar becoming a beautiful butterfly. Inspired by his example, I also began, in the face of my companion’s mental and physical deterioration, to affirm and believe that only good can come out of this. Perhaps my faith was more powerful than my attempts to help. A miraculous turnabout happened five months later, and the vision I had been affirming became a living reality.
In many cultures, illness or dis-ease is considered a time of learning, from which the individual emerges with greater wisdom. Illness forces us within. While I was writing a book on how successful people use intuition in decision-making, I interviewed an accomplished man who described his struggles with clinical depression. He knew that in this battle, where his life was at stake, he had to break through to something deeper than the narrow rationality he had been taught all his life, or something essential in him would die. For him, the struggle forced him to trust a deeper part of himself that was calling him into a harmonious relationship with some larger whole. In calling upon this deeper level of reality, he learned to dance with the larger forces at play beyond himself and the conventional order he had mistaken for reality itself. He lauds his intuitive self for guiding him through this soul-wrenching struggle.
It may seem like I am focusing on the negative in this newsletter and yet there is a valuable lesson. Perhaps darkness is an essential part of life, one of our changing inner seasons. It forces us to turn our perception around. I think we go down into the valley of despair in order to emerge with greater wisdom. From this perspective, every dark cloud does have its silver lining. To intuitively retrieve the lesson, or silver lining, hidden in one of your own discouraging times, I ask you to do the following exercise.
Find a time when you can be quiet for at least twenty minutes. Take several deep breaths, relax into the intuitive state, and recall a time of darkness, depression, or despair. Affirm that you are on a treasure hunt, seeking the wisdom, strength or shift — the silver lining — that came to you out of this experience. Engage in this deep introspection. What issues were you struggling with? What insights came to you? What was the turning point? What summary lesson did you learn? What positive quality or strength do you now have that you can trace to this experience? From this experience, what pearl of wisdom would you share with someone else who is going through a discouraging time?
I write this as people in our world have been assailed by natural disasters such as hurricanes and earthquakes. While you may feel “safe” at home, that energy is pervasive and impacts us even across thousands of miles. I felt incredibly drained in the days following Katrina though my family and friends were safe and sound. During those times when I felt very sad or low in energy, I would take a moment, to get still, say a prayer and send light to the stricken area. Then I was able to feel the full complement of my energy return and go back to my “work.” Try it and know you will be responding to an urgent plea from someone in the universe who needs your light.
DREAM NOTES
The dream speaks in pictures, symbols and images. Sometimes when you awaken the dream symbol will jump out and the underlying meaning is obvious. For example, you wake up and simply recall that a ship is bobbing up and down and eventually sinks. Aha! You intuitively realize that this is related to your relationship concern and clearly signals that you end this inconsistent union and become open to a more promising one.
Here’s another brief dream that was eye opening about a relationship dilemma. Carol had a serious conflict with her boyfriend that lasted two days. She invited her dreaming mind to reveal the best way to resolve it. The next night, she dreamed she was playing tug-of-war and dropped her end of the rope. Game over. Upon awakening, she knew she had to give in and apologize. Feeling peaceful about initiating action, she and her boyfriend had a loving, understanding conversation and the conflict ended.
In the first newsletter issue, I invited readers to use the “Submit a Dream” section under the DREAMWORK menu to send in dreams for comment. Thirty-year-old Brittney responded. She is originally from Mexico and moved to Canada after her marriage. She wakes up with a panic attack after having the following dream. I am at the beach and see a huge wave rising. I am worried that it is going to fall on me and pull me out to sea. I run away so I won’t drown.
If this were my dream, I would title it, “Drifting Out to Sea.” The symbol that jumps out to me is the “huge wave.” I begin to amplify and associate and come up with the following associations: inundate, menacing, water, drowning, and over the head. My intuitive hit and meaning of this dream is that Brittney is in “over her head” in the new culture with different customs, another language etc. We corresponded through E-mail and I shared my interpretation that she has an underlying fear of being inundated. In response, she realizes that the adjustment will come eventually and she won’t feel “over her head.”
Bob sent in a dream that was very puzzling to him and graphically revealed the inner struggle about making a commitment. Making a commitment to enter into marriage is painful for many people. They fear for example, taking on increased financial responsibility, not being able to socialize with old friends, and are concerned about parenting. I have found through my counseling others that people can be in denial about having this commitment phobia which is clearly revealed through a dream. Here is Bob’s dream.
Dream: I’m driving from the house that my fiancé and I have been living in towards our new house. There is rain pouring down on me while I’m driving. I make a left turn and start speeding down the 5 lane road. As I come up to a large bridge I start to feel like something is wrong. Suddenly I’m spinning around and I’m lost and dizzy as my truck comes to a stop on the other side of the bridge. I slowly get out and walk back towards the bridge and see that half of it is in shambles while the other half seems to be working as if nothing has happened to the rest of the bridge.
I apply the steps of the DreamShift technique which you can find in my PowerHunch book.
1. Dream Title: Crossing Over Safely
2. Become Centered and Receptive. For me to interpret this dream, I look at the panels on the wooden floor to become centered. Then I take several “Total Breaths” and imagine myself walking down ten steps to relax more deeply.
3. Major symbol: Bridge
4. Interpret These Symbols: The following words come up through amplification: walk over, connecting, separate, arch, and then cross over. The last really resonates to me as I realize that if this were my dream, I am safe on the other side of the bridge. I imagine myself as Bob and know this issue is emotional since rain is pouring down on me and the appearance of water in dreams is usually emotional. In the dream, he is dizzy when he gets to the other side and yet feels good that he escaped the shambles of the other side.
5. Engage the Symbol Artistically: I put music on and dance and begin to feel a complete sense of abandon. It is like I am releasing my fear of commitment.
6. Implement Your Dream Discovery. Bob realizes that setting a date for the wedding will help him cross over the bridge and still feel safe.
Here’s an exercise to help you with your relationship dreams.
EXERCISE: PROGRAM AND INTERPRET A RELATIONSHIP DREAM
Part One: Program a relationship dream. The most important part is asking the programming question correctly. You can review the “dos and don’ts of programming formulation” in chapter 1. Here are some examples:
How can I improve my relationship with my girlfriend?
How can I be more supportive of my partner?
What personality characteristics do I seek in a mate?
Part Two: Use the DreamShift to help you interpret the dream you received. For each dream, complete each of these steps.
1. Give the dream a title: Does this give you insight into the dream?
2. Become centered and receptive: What did you do to shift to the intuitive mind?
3. Identify the major symbols: Did the symbols come forward readily?
4. Interpret these symbols: How did you use the amplification
and word association to decipher the symbolism?
5. Engage the symbol artistically: Did you have fun drawing, dancing or singing?
6. Implement your dream discovery: How are the insights helping you?
*** UPCOMING TV SHOW ON DREAMS ***
A major reason that dreams are compelling my attention is that I am one of the three Dream Decoders on the groundbreaking mini-series — DREAM DECODERS — exploring the hidden meaning of dreams. The three-part series will air in its entirety Tuesdays at 8 PM (ET/PT) on the Discovery Health Network beginning November 1.
Each night, whether memorable or not, the average person has four to five dreams. But what do these dreams mean? And what do they tell us about ourselves? Discovery Health Channel unlocks the deepest secrets of the subconscious with the premiere of DREAM DECODERS. In this enlightening three-part series, three of the world’s top dream analysts—the “Dream Decoders”—help participants and viewers understand the messages of their dreams to foster greater emotional and psychological health.
DREAM DECODERS is filmed in front of a live-studio audience on a special “dream tank” set. Each episode evaluates the dreams of three or four people from different walks of life. With the help of host Steve Truitt, they share their most private, often recurring, dream or nightmare through verbal explanations and brief video re-creations. The Dream Decoders interview the dreamers about their personal experiences and current life challenges to uncover hidden clues in the depths of their psyches. The Decoders analyze these clues and offer their individual analysis to crack the dream code, giving the dreamers startling insight into their waking lives.
DREAM DECODERS promises to be one of the most controversial, entertaining, and enlightening hours of television that our waking minds could experience…leaving us with something stimulating to think, and dream about. If you have questions or comments about the show, please email Discovery Health Channel’s viewer relations department at viewer_relations@discovery.com.

GRATITUDE
Every issue I want to acknowledge one or two people who have enriched my life. I find as I open my heart to gratitude, thoughts or feelings of judgment, criticism, blame, fear or worry fade away. When you express gratitude for what you have in your life, every door and window of your being opens to love. What has been cloaked in darkness is now filled with light. And a lighter heart will readily respond to love and all the riches in the world.
I want to express my gratitude to Philip Horváth, who made me aware that my previous website was static and provided me with innumerable resources to stimulate the content for a new site. You now see the result. Philip Horváth is a co-founder of the Center for Conscious Creativity and works as an independent consultant and coach. He is the author of "Six Sigma for Your Life," a stress management program synthesizing his diverse background which includes Organizational Development and Design, Business Systems Integration, and Process Reengineering, as well as Personal Coaching, Yoga and Transformational Psychology. His passion is to bring forth transformation and transformational content, be it online or in the media. More information can be found at http://www.philiphorvath.com/ Thank you Philip for being a bright light in my life.
I also want to send my love and gratitude to Pam Coronado who extended a helping hand to me during a very dark time in my life. My husband Jim had just been diagnosed with bladder cancer and I was devastated. We prided ourselves on being very healthy people and to hear the cancer word was disorienting to say the least. Pam and I are both members of an Intuition Network discussion group online. When I sent a post about the situation, she stepped up immediately and said, “I can talk to you about this situation. My Father had a bout or two with bladder cancer and is now fine.” For the past three years she has been coaching me as I go through the valleys and peaks of my journey. My life has been enriched by Pam’s presence and I send her love and gratitude. Pam is a gifted psychic detective who has been featured on TV. Her psychic work has proven to be astonishingly accurate and helpful. If you are interested in finding out more about how to create positive change in your life and book Pam’s services, you can go to www.pamcoronado.com.

LETTERS
Mitzi writes: I am very interested in learning how to become more intuitive. You mentioned keeping a diary. What exactly should you put in a diary, and is there anything else you can recommend? I find this subject so interesting. I find it so frustrating when I can’t make a decision. This is one of the reasons I want to tune into my intuition.
Dr. Marcia responds: The first step in cultivating your intuitive abilities is to listening and becoming aware. That is why I recommend recording all the impressions you might ordinarily discount or not even notice in your diary or intuitive journal. For example, if your stomach hurts before you have to make a major decision, write it down. If you suddenly have an urge to call a friend you haven’t seen for some time, write it down. The entries in your journal will make it clear that you already use intuition, even if you didn’t know it. This is your opportunity to track and validate the intuitive voice. As you review your journal entries, you will be amazed at how many times you disregarded important warnings that would have been very useful. Of course I recommend any of my books to find out more about journaling and show you how to cultivate your intuition.

WELCOME
One of my power keys for developing the intuitive voice is Brevity and Simplicity. The intuitive mind is simple and responds pointedly without lengthy discourse. Following this teaching, here’s a brief and poignant welcome. Starting any endeavor is always exciting to me. I bring this exhilarated feeling to welcome you to this first issue. My hope is to create a “give and take” vehicle. As you take away some of the intuitive tidbits, please give back to me your impressions, questions, and experiences so I will know what to feedback to you. The intuitive mind speaks in pictures, symbols and images and has sent me the following image — a conductor stands before an orchestra with arms raised and ready to begin and then, as the hands start moving, the first notes sound and we have begun.
QUOTE OF THE MONTH
The intuitive mind is a sacred gift and the rational mind is a faithful servant. We have created a society that honors the servant and has forgotten the gift. ~Dr. Albert Einstein
Through this newsletter, I extend my invitation to you to remember your sacred intuitive gift.
DR. MARCIA’S INTUITIVE WISDOM CORNER
My students are always encouraged to record their hunches and gut feelings in a journal. These sensations often go unnoticed until one puts a value on recording the intuitive sparks that fly by. It is so rewarding to capture the hunches and gut feelings they might have missed. Cindy was one of my students who became more alert to the intuitive nudges all around her by recording them in her journal. Here is one of her entries.
Cindy was flying from a business meeting in Calgary to her home in St. Louis, with a connecting flight in Minneapolis. She started to worry when her flight out of Calgary was delayed for over an hour. To make matters more irritating, the departure gate in Minneapolis was the farthest possible distance from the arrival gate. Her mind raced with "what-if" thoughts—she knew there were no other flights to St. Louis that evening. What if she missed the flight and had to spend the night in a hotel? What if there were no hotel rooms and she had to sleep in the airport? As she ran to the gate at top speed, her bladder uncomfortably full, the image of a “thumbs-up” sign suddenly flashed through her mind. Her intuitive mind was sending her a clear message that she would make her flight. Immediately, she slowed down. She took a moment to stop in the restroom, and then walked directly to the gate. As she arrived, a woman was kissing a very tall man good-bye at the gate. When she boarded the plane she realized this man was the NBA basketball star, Shaquille O'Neal. Not only did she make the flight, but her seat was across the aisle from Shaq. As a bonus, she was thrilled to obtain his autograph for the youth group she facilitated. In the end, her flight home was not at all what her logical mind would have had her believe!
She was grateful to be attuned to her intuitive mind for sending the initial “thumb’s up” image to let her know she would make the flight and could take the needed pit stop at the ladies room. Of course the ultimate bonus was meeting Shaquille O’Neal.
Let’s focus on intuition for a moment. For me, it is a "clear knowing." I also like to describe intuition as "the deepest wisdom of the soul." Or, like the title of that well known book, "The Mutant Message Down Under."
What happens when you hear about a sniper, a terrorist attack or a drop in the stock market? Do you fear the worst will happen to you? Do you draw inward, suddenly unsure whether this is really the right time to make a job change, take on a new partner, or move? Where do you turn during these uncertain times, when you want the most reliable input? These are negative examples and yet they are all around us. If I am in this mode, my INTUITION goes to work to realistically quell my fears or tell me what step to take next. This sounds easy and assumes you have to know how your intuition is speaking to you.
You can read more about how you are wired to receive intuitive input in my book, PowerHunch! In brief, note that on the physical level, your senses become activated and you may receive intuitive input through vision, voice or vibration or any combination of these. Smell and taste can also be active. Then of course you can receive that clear knowing mentally, or emotionally through the heart chakra or through spirit. Notice how you become aware of intuitive information and record these observations in a journal. Here’s a hint. To find out how you are wired for intuitive input go to my website, and find the answer on Ask Dr. Marcia on the menu titled “For You.”
DREAM NOTES
Dreams are a direct conduit to the intuitive mind. You can use your dreams as problem-solving tools in the waking world—if only you could remember them and learn to decipher their sometimes confusing messages. Through practice, you can learn how to use your intuition to retrieve, respect, and listen to the insights embedded in your dreams.
The noise of the day silences the intuitive voice, but it gets a chance to speak clearly through a dream, providing a warning, direction, or guidance. You can learn from your dreams and retrieve invaluable insights by opening the intuitive gateway, day or night.
Carl Jung said, "The dream is an invaluable commentator and illuminator of life. Listen to the wisdom of the dream." The dreaming mind is the same intuitive mind where impressions of all the events and interactions with others since the moment of birth, or perhaps even from the beginnings of time, are recorded. The mind has complete access to all this dynamic information and, like a computer, sorts through the possibilities and communicates to the individual via a dream. This point was brought home to me dramatically some years ago. I had a puzzling dream about a high school buddy, Carl Sloan, whom I hadn't seen in twenty-five years. "Why now?" asked my logical mind. Intuitively, I knew that the universal data bank must have been tapped for a good reason, so I waited to find out. Some weeks later, I met a man who looked exactly like Carl and we fell in love. From that moment on, I had complete respect for my intuitive dreaming mind, which had prepared me for this intense romantic involvement.
You can also thank the dreams that give you a red-flag alert to trouble up ahead. My intuitive doorway opened in May 1970 through a dramatic and crystal clear dream that probably saved my life. In the dream, I was driving a car, put my foot on the brake, and it went right to the floor. The car turned over, but I got out unharmed. I woke up with my heart beating frantically and wondering if I was in the middle of an accident. Soon the familiar sights in my bedroom assured me that I was at home. A week later, I was driving down a heavily trafficked street in Washington, D.C., when I put my foot on the brake. The brake failed and my foot went right to the floor, just like it had in the dream image. The emergency brake didn’t work either. My dream had alerted me to this possibility though I failed to get them checked. When I was in the midst of major traffic with the brake failure, my intuitive voice came to my rescue and told me to make a quick right. I did, and the car came to a stop between two clothing stores—the only area of safety.
Each month I will share Dream Tidbits with you. If you would like me to comment on a dream, send it to me and I will respond in the “Submit a Dream” section under the DREAMWORK menu.

GRATITUDE
Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos into order, confusion to clarity…Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow.
Melody Beattie
The above quote embraces the value in expressing gratitude. When I feel grateful, my heart opens and my intuition is sparked. Expressing gratitude during down times is especially important for me even though being positive about anything really takes an effort. As I begin to acknowledge appreciation for the special people and situations in my life, a turn of mood inevitably occurs.
I give thanks to my mother — the late Naomi Rose — for instilling in me the practice of writing “thank you notes.” As a teen and young adult, this felt like a chore until it became a habit. After my first book was published, I went on automatic pilot and wrote thank you notes to my editor and anyone at the publishing company involved with the production of the book. I later found out this tickled everyone since no author had ever done that before.
Here’s my practice suggestion. Have a gratitude section in your Journal so you can take the time every day to write one or two people or situations that invoke gratitude in your heart. I even do this verbally when I take a walk and give thanks to the people who are being supportive to me. I say their name out loud like, “I feel grateful to Pam for the wise counsel she always give me.”
With each Newsletter I want to publicly give gratitude to someone who has enriched the quality of my life. At the birth of this newsletter on my brand new website, it feels appropriate to acknowledge Liz Diaz, my creative web master. We met at an annual conference of the IASD and share our love for dreams. I love her creativity and the way she works tirelessly through an idea until it is perfect. Liz — my heart is filled with gratitude for your helping me create this momentous website. I strongly recommend that people explore your services on the link at the bottom of this page.
